The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) has announced it is seeking candidates for the position of Executive Secretary of the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (SCBD) at the level of Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations based in Montreal, Canada. The UNEP is leading the way on global environmental policy within the United Nations system and promotes sustainable development and acts as the authority for global environment.
The Convention has three objectives. The conservation of biological diversity, the sustainable use of its components and the fair and equitable sharing of the benefits arising out of the utilization of genetic resources, including by appropriate access to genetic resources and by appropriate transfer of relevant technologies. Central to these efforts is taking into account all rights over those resources and to technologies, and by appropriate funding.
